My dog teaches me to live in the moment more.

Shiloh shows gratitude through her eager smile and increased pep in her step! Your hash browns. My oatmeal-especially when there’s a blueberry or 2 left in the bowl!

Ah yes, the beloved blueberries 🫐 😊

My old girl mix dog is now blind with cataracts and pretty much stone deaf. Stairs have become a challenge but she’s still, sort of house broken. Her time will come soon and I’ll know when but for now, she’s still a good old dog and I love her very much. Gypsy, part shepherd? Part collie, part whatever. It’s a good thing to have a good old rescue dog.

No matter how I try, I can’t picture a human greeting g another human with a head butt and a body slam and it NOT be in a jail cell or at Walmart on Cyber Monday while trying to grab the last 78” TV.

You see some things at Walmart- that’s a guarantee.

The Walmart part sent me over the edge 🤣🤣 Mostly because I had to go there yesterday for regular shit and nobody understands there are still regular shoppers out here just trying to live our lives!!

Wish I had a dog!

You're damn right we could learn a thing or two about gratitude from dogs...or pure joy for that matter.

Dogs love the yoga mats! such great energy in those things.

My dog trainer said the other day that we tend to humanize dogs and expect them to think and behave like humans...and then she said we shouldn't degrade them to human status, making it very clear that dogs are superior beings on the spiritual heierarchy!

I like your dog trainer’s way of viewing the world!

Every week at my dog-training class, I am reminded of the humble power of dogs to remind us humans how to be better beings.

Where are you going for training?

Expand full comment

I work with Jessica from Trinity Dogs MN. She requires a series of private sessions before inviting clients to a weekly walk and train in the park. There are anywhere from 5-15 dogs in each class. She’s amazing.

Oooh I love that. Never thought of it that way but I totally believe it. In many ways they are superior...I mean, they rule the world of the humans who house them 😊

totally do!

There's a reason spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle often cites dogs as beings who live totally in the present moment and are thus way less worried and way more joyful than most humans.

Expand full comment

Exactly! We all need to try and adopt that mindset a little more. Discovery of the seemingly mundane is so worthwhile.

Yes, yes, yes on the plate licking... though hard to get away with when in a restaurant... but he understands and is forgiving! Biggest gratitude right now is a fake rabbit fur throw over the sofa.... I've now had to order a second one for myself...

😂😂 So you're saying he captured and destroyed the first one? That's hilarious.

Expand full comment

Not destroyed, but reverently dragged from the couch to his own basket, and then appropriated!

HAhahah that made me laugh out loud. Dogs are so unassuming 😂

I'm grateful for the the dog's unbridled joy of going outside for a walk. Whatever the hour. Whatever the weather. It rubs off on me.

Jordan, yes!!! Same here! It's as if every walk is the first walk of their lives and a new trail to blaze 😊

Expand full comment

I KNOW!!!! Even though we go the same round every. single. day. Something to be learned. The Norwegian philosopher Arne Næss said something along the lines of if you walk the same trail twice it's boring but if you walk the same trail a hundred times it becomes meaningful or something like that. I must see if I can find the exact quote.

Oh what a great quote! I love watching my dog sniff whatever crossed the path the night before. I wonder what she's picking up.

PS: I didn't mistype your name...my phone autocorrected it to Jordan. My apologies!

I found the exact quote by the philosopher Arne Næss!!! Here it is: "Walking the same path ten times might give you a sense of repetition, but walking it a hundred times can awaken a renewed sensitivity and joy for every 'tiny little' thing along the way."

So, to summarize….”A dog’s life” 💗

I don't mind at all, Kristi. That damn autocorrect creates all kinds of fun in my typing as well.

I loved this so much.

My dog teaches me to stay humble. She is forever getting me into scrapes with bushes and showing me how exciting dashes after leaves can be.

She also appreciates my bed even more than me and my partner do, and promptly takes up most of it every night.

She wakes me up by stamping her foot beside me and occasionally whacking me around the head with a paw.

She's my world.

Awwwww ❤️ They take up so much space in our lives, don't they?

I once set up a voice activated video camera to capture what Dezi does to me in the mornings and it was hilarious to watch it back 😂 Dogs are nuts and we wouldn't have it any other way.
